Am I too young for p90x?

Quote  |  Reply

Just a quick question, I got all my recipe food and dvd's already.. now that summer is here, I was planning on starting monday.  I am a competitive soccer player and I ran track etc.  I just want to lose a bit of weight and some fat (it will enhance my sports abilities too ;)

But now, my parents had made me all paranoid.. and I am wondering if at 15 years old.. am I too young to start something like p90x?  Will it make my boobs shrink? or stunt my growth or anything drastic?

Thanks.. its been picking at my mind.

I have the p90x dvd's myself, and though I have not gone through all 90 days of hell, I have done each dvd at least once. And Tony Horton is really good about showing you alternatives to many of the exercises, so if you feel you are going too intense then you can just ease up and do the simpler versions.

So, to answer your question, no I don't think 15 is too young to start p90x. But I would suggest going with some of the simplified versions of the workouts if you are worried about shrinking boobs or growth stunt. And go light on weight training days. But it shouldn't do anything too drastic. When I was fifteen years old I was doing all sorts of high intensity workouts and I turned out fine. Except, being a guy I wasn't worried about my boobs shrinking ;)

I know that for the P90 system, a younger girl used it as a finess routine and got in great shape and had no health problems (and her doctor had OKed it)

I realize P90x is on a different level, but I'd think if u'd just go for it at your own pace u'd be fine... it's like training done right for any sport, 15 is not too young.Asking your doc wont hurt either if u reeeally need the assurance.

boobswise :) losing body fat can mean you'd lose some boobage.. but u'll be building your pecs under ur boobs which'll lift them anyway and give u more definition which makes them look better, i think.

good luck!

That strength training can negatively impact your growth or have any detrimental effects on you at all (unless you drop the weight on yourself) is a total, utter myth.

If you overestimate your capability and let your ego set how much weight you use instead of reaching failure in the prescribed number of reps - so you wind up cheating on form or only doing quarter-reps - you could potentially hurt yourself through bad form or overuse injuries, but that's more of a guy thing. Women tend to underestimate themselves and use too little weight instead - I just watched a 4-year old girl deadlift 50lbs because she wanted to try my weights. She's strong for her age, and I fully expect to see my friend's daughter on a regular training schedule in a couple years' time ;)

No, I don't think you are too young for P90X...However, make sure you pace yourself and complete the routines based on your current fitness level!

Oh god. Are you serious? I really need to step it up... lol

to the OP: Boob shrinkage depends on how much extra fat you have to lose, how much of the extra fat is in your boobs, and where your body naturally burns it from first. I used to be a C cup, then I lost 20 pounds... now I'm a small B. But, I feel a LOT better about my body being this much thinner. I don't really miss the boobs :]
