Young and out of shape!

Oh man, when I was in High School I was very active and had a healty appearance. What happened? I am now 21 and get winded walking up 3 flights of stairs, I don't eat right, I don't take vitamins, and I can't stand vegetables. So here I am trying to loose between 30-40 pounds by August. Do you think I can do it? I am sure going to try. I would like to just be physically fit again and enjoy running like I used to. I need to find a buddy that wants to run with me that always makes it easier. Anyone from Lima ohio or surrounding and want to work out with me?? Let me know, I am new here and trying to make a better life for myself! Who's with me!!!!!

Hi Amy Jo,

I am in a similar situation as you are.  Throughout HS and even some years past I have always been slim, muscular and very active.  Im now 29 years old and although I dont "look fat" I believe im over weight.  I also get winded easy (probably due to smoking).  So anyway...  Today I woke up and hopped on the scale and I couldnt believe my eyes..230 LBS!  I got so pissed but at the same time so motivated.  I threw my full pack of ciggs away and put on my Ipod and hit the ground running.  Im trying to get down to 190ish so I also am looking to lose the same amount of weight in that time period.  I havnt surfed in over 2 years and I would love to get back in the water.  So I say  YES  you can do it.  And although i dont live by you i can be your online support.   I am detoxing today..only water and excercise.  Flushing out the lactic acids in my muscles and getting my blood  CO levels back to normal from the stupid ciggs.

When you're a teenager you can do quite a lot to your body before it starts to rebel.  But if your diet's been routinely poor and you don't take regular exercise it's going to catch up on you in your twenties.

Start by getting your diet into shape.  There are so many different vegetables around that you can't lump them all together and write them off as a food group!  Together with fresh fruit they're the key to getting your energy levels back.  Once you've got some better nutrition then you can attempt the exercise.  Without it, you'll crash and burn.

So improve your diet and then see how you go.  Best of luck

I am an obsessive Pepsi drinker- I love it to death. Today I dumped out the 12 pack and got some water.. Whoo Hoo! Together we will beat the weight and come out on top!

This will be the greatest thing we ever did for ourselves!

Story of my life. It's easy to stop working out as I did early in my college career and gain a lot of weight.

I'm with gi-jane. If you don't eat right, you should change that. Everybody has different goals, you can modify your diet to do different things, but in your case, I believe you should focus on improving your food intake.
