This is what I had today...

Breakfast: 1/4 cup cheerios + 1/4 cup soymilk + 1/2 7-grain toast with 1/2 tbsp cream cheese + 1 medium apple

Lunch: Steamed veggie (around 60 calories) + 2 slice 7-grain toast + omelet that made from egg subsitute powder...looks like about 2 large egg

That's now for the day. I feels like I eat too much. Can anyone confirm my thought??? Just update: After that, I went running + weight trainng for 45 minutes Then , 1 bag of fat free kettle corn + 1 apple + 1 orange Dinner: 1 small pork rib (I only eat the meat part and it's probably like 3 oz + 2 potato roll (DARN those bread!!!!!!!!!!!) + 1 orange Now...haha...I think this became too much now. I'm at almost 1400 calories right now. 60% carbs + 20% fat and + 20 % pertein. What do you think? I personally think it's too much, though.

The answer is going to depend on a number of factors: Your height and current weight, and your activity level. And what you plan to eat for the rest of the day. But this doesn't seem like a lot of food to me.

Approx 450 calories? Give or take a hundred or so. Rather low for breakfast and lunch combined.

Most people are around 600-700 by lunch time, which still leaves about 600-500 calories for dinner and perhaps a light snack.

Even as an Asian, you still have vital organs to maintain. 1200 calories (at the very least) is only 'too much' for extreme cases under medical supervision. Depending on your activity, you may need more than that even.
I would encourage you to at least reach 1200 each day, no matter how much food it seems like. If you dislike feeling full, try calorie-dense foods like nuts/nut-derived products, which are often full of good fats that can help you maintain your health.

I want to help if I can and answer your question, but I have to echo what mpatitucci said. It does seem like quite a small amount of food regardless of ethnicity... and you haven't included any stats. What is your height, weight and frame size?

I understand that we Asians are held to a different standard than any other ethnic group. What is "normal" or even "skinny" for Americans is usually considered "chubby" or even "fat" in the eyes of other Asians. I know what that extra social pressure is like. But what is right and healthy for YOU is independent of that and I hope you keep that in mind if you're attempting to lose weight. ^^

But please, share if you're comfortable. Details are good :) We'll all try to help you as much we can.

The only reason I eat very little in the morning is because I'm in a boading school and I don't have a fridge (I'm not allowed to have one) so I can't really store anything in my room. And school didn't really provided much at breakfast. I usually have a bigger dinner...aroud 400 calories and I will probably snack on fruits..I hope.

I'm 16, 5"1 and 106-1008 pounds. The reason I'm asking is because I'm going back to my country (for summer vecation) this coming friday and I just kinda recovering from ED so I'm trying to eat normal before my parents wil getting too worry about me. My eating system gone really weird....the normal eating for normal people may seems to be really big for me (and I don't even know what is a normal eating is anymore). Like that 2 slides of bread and the egg....I can BARELY finish the entire thing..I mean I can eat the entire thing but I was very filling afterward. I'm just not used to feeling full..that's just all.

Oh well, thank you for answering my question and help with my concern!!

And trust me, before I had ED and I was at home....I eat A LOT LOT LOT more.

My fiance is Asian, and believe me, his family eats WAY more than my family. In one sitting, 6 of them plus me finished off a whole kilogram (uncooked weight) of white rice! And they're all at a healthy weight. My advice is to have at least 2 bowls of rice, but only make them half-full so you don't end up feeling too uncomfortable. You will get used to feeling full again.

PS: maybe your parents need to know about this ED so that they can help you.

hey i'm asian and that sounds awfully little actually. You're still a teen (and your BMR is quite a bit higher) so you do have the leeway to eat more to maintain your weight. You might want to cut the pork ribs tho, cause other meat sources (fish, chicken, beef) are much healthier alternatives (:

hey im chinese, and 5"1 as well.

When i was in highschool/early university (currently 23 years old) I ate around 2000 calories a day (give or take). That is with no exercise (outside of the usual catching bus/walking to school). my weight averaged and maintained about 112 or so.

Then last year, i started running  3-4 times a week for roughly 40min sessions, and eatting about 1300-1400 calories. That dropped me to under 100lbs. This wasnt really the healthiest way to lose weight.... so now i eat back at 2000 calories and workout/run 3-4 times a week, and I am maintaining at a weight close to 100lbs. this allows me to eat chips, french fries etc. when I feel like it.

Becuase I had gotten used to eating only 1400, how I manage to eat a lot more is to eat more freqently, and eat the non low fat versions of food.  I eat literaly every 1-2 hours now.  Instead of forcing yourself to eat all that in one sitting, carry some food with you and eat when you change classes. Carry items that can be eaten fast like mixed nuts, cut up fruit, granola bars. Or, add a bit more food to eat each meal eg 1/3 cup cheerios instead, so you get used to the amount slowly.

So yah... in my opinion, you are not eating a lot.

Yeah..I told my parents about my ED but they didn't really get the picture. My family and my friends NEVER talk about eating...al we do is eat and we never fat (all my friends are even skinnier and smaller than me). I also do swimming for 3 months during winter which explain why my shoulder part and a bit bigger for my size and compare to some Asian back at my country, I was called to be a bit bigger but that has always been fine.

I feel that I should allow myself to eat more but in the same times, I feel like I gain weight if I eat that much. But that's probably not true since I used to eat that much..I believe, when I was in my country. The thing is, I'm in a boarding school and I don't eat beef so there aren't many food for me (no hotdog-burger-stuff cabbage...). And I don't want tp spend soo much money on grocery every week (besides, I don't have a fridge to keep some food like yogurt). I tried to eat nuts to uptake my calories but I ended up eating too much of those.

I'll be going home this Wednesday and I have to have a real talk with my parents and I hope going home, seeing our tiny asian serving size again would help me get out of ED because I actually thing this ED symptom is mostly mentally!

Wish me luck!

Thank you all of you to at least help encourage me again that eating 2000 calories for my age is OK.
