When you're on your period...

Is it natural to start gainin three or four pounds?  Or is it just me?  I went from 135 one day to 138 in the next couple days, now I'm at 139 and I am SO depressed!  I told myself I never wanted to get back up to 140, and if I do, I don't know how I'm going to keep this up!  I was doing good, but I'm not exercising, and I haven't been keeping to my calories these last few days because of my schedule, and then I let it go after that.  I'm trying to get back on track...  I just really want to get this last 19 pounds off.

Im 136 and during my period i can gp up to 140, and also just when bloated lol. SO yeh it does happen and it takes a few days (about 4 to even 6) for everything to go back to normal!!

it happens to us all, i even have a pic in my profile of TOTM bloating so u can see it realy does go away after!!
so that's it then, during the 7 or so days of your period you go up (1-5 lbs) and THEN 4-6 after go back down?  so for about 11 days a month we are up from period weight?  Or is it just the 7 days OF our period?

ARGH, that means I need my period to come TODAY......
Everyone has a different effect...some people have reported even a 10 lb weight gain during TTOM and some seem to have none.  If you want to track yours, just add a note to your weight log so you can easily see what was happening when.  After a few months, you should have a pretty good idea.

Also, if you make a major change to your diet or exercise, try adding a note in your weight log just to see if there is an effect.
Yes, I started this morning and when I weighed last Friday I was at 161, every day since Monday I've been at 163...Seriously look forward to seeing if I go down next week even more since I'm still excersizing and calorie counting...It was so nice to see the scale go down so now to see it go up is rather depressing (even though I know exactly why it went up)! I'll let you know how it all pans out...
I'm up too...started today, it better go down within the next couple of days.  I feel "fluffy" and uncomfortable!

That's still so depressing.  I went clothes shopping yesterday and out of about 30 tops I brought home NOTHING, and ended up crying instead out of frustration.  Nothing looked good.  My tummy pooched, my pants were tighter than usual, I could see love handles, ugh.  It was not fun.  So, do we tend to -look- fatter as well during that time of the month?

Oh yeah, I DREAD weighing myself in the 7 days of my period. I usually gain about 3 pounds which is SO frustrating. But I look forward to the following week when I lose the 3 pounds again.  Oh, and yes, I always feel that my clothes are tighter.
Yep I usually gain about 3-4lbs, starting one or two days before my little friend makes a visit.  I'm back down in weight again one or two days before its over.  It does make clothes fit tighter but only for a few days.  It's all water weight and bloat, you're not actually gaining fat (unless you also get uncontrollable cravings and eat like a monster when you're on it). Dont worry about it all that much :)  It happens to everybody and its only noticeable to you!

yeah, i do get cravings *tears hair out*  I'm trying hard not to eat everything in sight.  So far I haven't splurged on any really high calorie things.  Today I'm trying to keep to my calorie limit.  Blargh.  Periods are a difficulty when it comes to dieting.
i've heard you can "gain" up to 10 pounds during your period...none of it is fat however...it's just excess water weight that comes off when it's over (the body is an amazing machine)...just watch what you eat, not too much junk or salt, and you should be fine :)
when it's that time of the month, the scale sometimes goes up 5 pounds or more. i don't worry about it because i know once it's after that time of the month, my weight will return to normal.
I gain 10lbs or so, I don't over eat, it's just water weight...if I have a special event during that time I will take a "water pill" but I don't suggest doing that. The pill will drain your body of nutrients that you need. I would love to say that I only gain 5lbs but hey what can ya do?
i am experiencing this RIGHT now... i haven't weighed myself but i can totally feel it and see it in the mirror :( i have eaten alot of salty things too which probably has not helped one bit. mexican food last night and fries with lunch today etc etc, here is the thing, its wednesday night and my bf is coming to town next tuesday - any advice on how to flush it all through by then/?? i know to drink lots of water and everything...this weekend i am planning on being very healthy and low cal and doing that bc i really want to look extra good, does anyone have any other tips?

TTOM totally sux @$$!

Embarassedsorry.  but it needed to be said!

I get all poofy and fluffy and bloated and just Yelltoo.

Even tho I *know* my body will be back to normal (??? LOL) in 4-5 days it's still so hard to keep focussed and motivated.

What works for me is to pamper myself during that week:

* bubble baths or showers

* giving myself a manicure/pedicure

* going to bed early

* having that comfort food (white cheddar popcorn, homemade peanut butter cookies)

sometimes I'm amazed at how cruel I can be in my self-talk.  so I really try to focus on just loving me and my *&^%$ body during TTOM.

hang in there

xoxoxoxo

Aw your right its hard to tell yourself that you will for sure go back to normal after... i'm glad that someone else indulges in a bit of comfort food too, i have let myself have some treats this week but im planning on being v. good fri-tues so hopefully i can negate their effects and get rid of the water weight over the weekend!! thanks :)
heh i luckily dont gain any weight on my periods.. they're always light. ;D

butt i probably jinxed it and when i get older it'll be worse :(

I gain one to three pound right before my period.  It is very frustrating even though I know it is water weight.
I'm so glad to have found this thread! I felt like I was the only one who gained a few during my period. It was so frustrating!

I know.  It's one of those curses women have to bear.  I saw one pound come off today, but that could just be a regular fluctuation.  I don't know, really.  I took the comfort food advice and gave myself some ice cream last night.  It was really nice.  Oddly enough, I'm not craving sweets like I thought I would.  It's a good system.
