Does anyone else have this problem???
When people see me with my snack bag or concerned about the calories in the food I'm about to eat - they say... "But you're so skinny - you don't need to worry about that!"
I'm so sick of hearing that. Anyone else?
Oddly, I've had people on HERE (CC) do it to me....
crazy.
I get the eye-roll with the "you don't need to lose weight" from people who have noticed my weightloss.
And at an increasing rate, people bring me food. That's new. A co-worker brought me in two pieces of pizza the other day after they'd already commented on the turkey sandwich I was already eating. My boss asked me three times "are you sure you don't want me to get you a soda?" And the other night my friend's mom brought me in a piece of carrot cake after I had already told her "no thank you".
It's kind of freaking me out.
Yeah i get it all the time my mum act's like i have an ED and my husband ordered takeaway for my tea last night so you can see how seriously he's taking me, i got home from work and it was just sitting there waiting.
i was soo mad, because i knew i didn't want to eat it, but i also knew he'd go mental and rant about how i was ruining the whole family's life with my stupidity because 120lb is not over wieght.
At work my whole office call me health nut girl, ive only been with the company for about 6 weeks which is about as long as i decided i wanted to get healthy and lose the fat
tbh though my boss is more supportive than my hubby he always ask's if i've been to the gym and at least he seems to commend my efforts, he's a gym go'er (gym subscription is part of our employment package) so i feel like i have abit of an allie ... we have abit of friendly competition going to see who can get in shape first.
so I was/am skinny fat. I started going to the gym and am hoping to drop a little on the scale and tone up.
Skinny fat just means they're normal weight but without much muscle mass. I'm the same; in clothes I can look normal, but I know how I really look, because I see me naked!
"Without much muscle mass" IE, elevated BF%.
You can weigh 120 and have 17% bodyfat, therefore looking trim and athletic, or weigh 120 and have 27% bodyfat, which means the more of your bodyweight is fat, and therefor not very trim or athletic.
Oh yes. Everyone I know: "You have a great metabolism. You don't need to eat that grilled chicken. Here, have some pizza, a slab of cake, and here's a gallon of cola to wash it down with."
No. I want my grilled chicken, thanks. I don't drink cola anymore. Cake? Maybe after I finish these veggies. Oh, one more thing: It's not my metabolism. It's my exercise plan. I call it WORKING LIKE A FREAKIN' DOG!
God, exactly. I don't tell an overweight person to put down the alfredo and hit the gym, so why should they tell me to eat more?
It's my choice, and there is nothing wrong with my eating or exercising habits. I in no way am "disgustingly" thin or have an ED, so why the remarks?
And you'll be hard-pressed to find anyone (regardless of their size) who is 100 percent happy with their body, so lay off with the, "Oh, you have no right to complain--you're so thin" comments.
UGH!
sugarsweet - you totally got the whole "skinny fat thing" With clothes on, it's all good - but naked... that's a different story... that's when you see the "fat" part of being skinny.
My girlfriends didn't get the skinny fat phrase either... so I showed my abdomen (with the roll, while I was standing ) and they said "OH... OK" all wide eyed.
"You're posting this in a weight loss forum. My guess is that it's not going to spark much conversation..."
lol, but I thought the same thing first reading it. It's a personal annoyance when you go somewhere where you expect overweight people who can relate to you and your problems, and instead there's "skinny" girls wondering whether they're supossed to have 1, 000 calories a day or 1, 400 or something like that.
but I love x17star17x , and I know what she's been through, and I can understand XD
For some reason, people seem to be better with healthy eating when it's connected more directly to health and not weight.
oh goodness, thank you SO MUCH!
People who say I'm underweight (yeah, check my stats, some people actually tell me I'm overweight) say the same thing, and I'm think "YEAH, that's WHY I'm thin!!!! And I don't want to EVER get overweight, so I watch what I eat."
I figure it's my body, so I'll watch how much I eat. And I'll stay thin, and save the money I'd have to pay for new jeans because the smaller ones wouldn't fit anymore.
Glad I got that out. :]
Allisha and sugarsweet, I love what you say about the "skinny fat"! My lean mass is something like 98pds, which means that everything else is pure fat. So I weigh 120, wear size 0-2, but I'm carrying 20+ pounds of fat.
Clothes on I look decent enough, maybe even decent enough in a bikini, but although my belly is somewhat flat-ish, it's jiggly like a bowl of jelly! :S Blah, gross, but true.
It's different and yet the same for guys. When a guy is on a diet, his friends are rarely ever supportive. However, instead of getting remarks like "but you're so skinny," we get "dude, why are you on a diet... are you gay?" Sometimes my ex-gf would get mad at me for always eating healthy but when I worked out she never complained, lol.
Ugh, I get this a lot as well. I don't talk about weight loss with my co-workers, but they notice what I eat (salads, veggies, fruit, lean meats) and sometimes get on my case and try to get me to go to KFC with them. I just tell them I eat like this because I want to stay healthy (quite a few people in my family have high cholesterol, diabetes, etc.), and they usually leave me alone after that.
Oh, and I am so there about the "skinny fat" thing. I'm trying to love my tummy, but sometimes it's just so darn hard! Low rise jeans do not work for me. ![]()
It's as if no one considers that maybe the reason you're "so skinny" is because you watch what you eat! It also sort of feels like they're trying to diminish all the effort you put into exercising and eating right (with comments like "I guess you have a really fast metabolism!")
Does anyone have any good retorts?
I always respond with something to the effect of "well, you're so healthy, why don't you light up a cigarette"
