You're being tracked...
I'm watching a movie and in it someone is being tracked by the FBI, bugs, tracking devices, hidden cameras, bank account frozen etc...
It got me wondering....not that it is ever likely to happen but how quickly do you think that you would become aware that something was wrong...
Would you think to look for cameras, bugging and tracking devices, or would it just never enter your head?
Since I am a complete non-threat, not only would I not think to look for any evidence of surveillance, it would shock the hell out of me if I happened to discover it by accident.
I'm pretty much a national security nobody.
Wear a tin-foil hat - it makes you invisible.![]()
Only to the aliens...
I'm pretty paranoid already so I doubt it'd take me too long to figure out something was up.
Who says they aren't already [watching you]?! :0
I'm also paranoid so it wouldn't SURPRISE me if I found one, but it would FREAK me the heck out! D:
And I always look for cameras in stores/banks. I always have. Sometimes I'd see an odd silvery or black orb thing hanging from the ceiling and wonder if that is in fact the camera, but sometimes there are bigger ones too... so I get confused. ![]()
I am very observant, and those who know me have said many times "not much gets past you". I also scan joints for cameras etc...I am also someone who is guilty of taking the back off of things to "just have a look inside".
So I am quite sure that I would quickly become aware and start looking.
It's quite scary to think that bodies such as the FBI, CIA etc can and do do things like this.
Everyone is being watched way more than we realize. My best friend's dad installs hidden video cameras for a living (for businesses). They're EVERWHERE.
I'm not surprised at all Andie! I watched you type that post MWAHAHAHAHAHAHA ..... and other evil cackles LOL Seriously, we're all being watched and tracked somehow, somewhere most of the time ...... No point in being paranoid LOL :)
the government constantly monitors all communications (even those in other countries). But, if they were targetting a single person...you wouldnt know it. It not like they are sitting there in a giant van or walking a few feet behind you with a trench coat and big sunglasses ><
If you want a freaky feeling, google your address, then click on maps, and click on the satellite view. You can see your house, sky view, with decent detail. On mine, they have a picture of my parents visiting (they only come two or three times a year).
It's amazing how much of what we do is already tracked - and not by the government! Every time you use an Air Mile cards or "value-added" credit card, your purchasing patterns are being monitored by a third party - yup, by agreeing to take advantage of their bonuses, you're also agreeing to have your transactions monitored and used for marketing purposes!
just replying to this thread has had me tracked by at least five sites.

We don't always notice what we notice. But when you are on dial up you can see the page bounces that collect information. Why else does the ads on the side seem so agreeably in tune to our 'desires'

i had a part time job in a clothing store once looking through a two way mirror in a clothing store trying to catch shop lifters. The booth was mirrored on all sides, and was in the middle of the department. It just looked like another support column above the mirrors.

Oh yeah - this annoys me more than anything else. just because I have a passing fancy and look something up does not mean I want to be bombarded with ads about that thing. And the "related" ads. I mean come on - maybe, if I saw advertsing for something I have never independantly thought of, I might GET interested enough to make a purchase. But no, I see only advertising that some marketer "thinks" I want to see. And I dont want to see it at all.
As for the original question - I think it would be pretty easy to miss a lot of signs that you were being observed. Black SUVs, guys in business suits etc - all stand out. A common man, a rental car and even your neighborhood ice cream man would not draw notice. Bugs in your house are passe' and seldom ever used where other monitoring can be done. The digital age has made so much spy stuff obsolete.
Also Yahoo - did you know Yahoo tracks EVERYTHING you do? You need to go into their options and decline to be part of their "tracking" but not only do you need to do it on your own PC for each yahoo address you have, it is exclusive to each computer so you need to do this umpteen times for each address (if you have more than one) and each computer. I will try to find the link for it that a friend sent me ages ago. We went through and did it and then Yahoo changed their criteria, updated and voila, you have to do it again, and they track you in the meantime. Which is why when people say "I sent it to you" or "didn't you get it" or "I couldn't get hold of you" I very much doubt they've tried overly hard - I have multiple email addresses for different things, phone, fax, mobile phone (2), home address, PO Box, work address and work phone, electoral role, vehicle registration, Facebook, chat forums (or is that "fora" if we're being precise? LOL) ... so I'm not hard to find ...

Gee, that sounds like the perfect response for someone that's TRACKING OTHER PEOPLE! Come clean now, Santonacci, and no one gets hurt. ![]()

Hey, the copper mesh lined room in my basement is just for aesthetics, the flashing light board and monitors are there to address my hubby's inner Star Trek fanboy, the parabolic microphone is a movie prop, and I've always worn a hearing aid.
And it's not my fault some idiot keeps sending me plain brown envelopes with an untraceable postmark and the words "red cat" on it. You can try to examine them, but I'll warn you that they're currently lining my cat's litter box. Reduce, reuse, recycle, and all that.
Now drop it.

i felt that way in elem & middle school long before the truman show. like everyone was just placating me somehow and hiding some "truth" from me.
I probably should have told the counselor that.
the truman show is awesome an revealing the possibilities of monitoring lives. Minority Report does the same to a deeper extreme. Love that movie!
at work (rather large hardware company) we have these learning courses. I took one yesterday and one of the questions talked about RFID's as being part of the process used to track sales.
