If you've been to Disney World, and have some healthy experiences HELP!

Quote  |  Reply
I'm going to Disney this weekend, yay! but I was wondering what have you done to stay on your healthy eating track when you've been down there?

I know that i should enjoy myself and all that cause I'm on vacation, all in moderation.

I was just wondering if anyone had any good tips, good places to go, or anything interesting!!

:)

Hi alex

I'm a disney nut so I can help you.  Disney has actually gotten a lot better about offering healthy food in the parks.  There are now fruit stands especially in Magic Kingdom where you can buy fresh cut fruit.

If you are eating at the quick service restaurants you can substitue baby carrots for fries at many of them, don't know what to tell you about the hamburger though ;).

If you are eating at a sit down restaurant then they will accomodate to any request you have.  If you want more info on disney and the  dining options go to this website  www.disboards.com and then head on to the dining area.   Have fun!!!!
We were at disneyland in the fall and found that to get good (and healthier) food it's best to go to the larger restaurants.  At Disneyland, we ended up going to Downtown Disney to eat instead of eating in the park.  And the fresh fruit in the park was helpful too!

The thing I remember most about Disneyworld is all the great food at Epcot Center.  I would imagine the larger restaurants that are part of the nations exhibits would have some of the healthier options - salads and such, along with the more sit-down restaurants.
I walked so much at Disney and snacked so little that I lost weight while I was there, just FYI.  They didn't have those fruit and carrot options then either.  We brought our lunches in though to save money.
they have grilled chicken sandwhices, healthy wraps, fruit!!!!

they are gettting alot better i have a site with menus and stuff let me find it.
thanks everyone!!!

where are the fresh fruit stands located?

where in magic kingdom?
I went to disney last year and it was a baddd food experience.  I'm a  vegetarian so all I ate the whole time was salad, french fries, and pizza.  Yeah... it was bad.
Epcot is fantastic for healthy food - check out the Land, where they have quick service, cafeteria style resturants serving chicken, salmon, sushi, sandwiches, soups, etc..all healthy.

if you have more time, eat at garden grill, in the same place. it's a sitdown revolving restuarant, and you eat vegetables grown in epcot's own greenhouses. delicious.

other than that, out and about in the other parks, all the quick service restaurants offer some form of salad, and most of the time, dressing comes on the side. just be sure to ask for fat-free or reduced fat. or you can get wraps without bacon or mayo or any of that gross stuff.

or, you can also consider the fact that you are on vacation, and you will be walking A TON - most likely burning off whatever extra it is you eat. with that said, might i suggest my FAVORITE disney world treat: at magic kingdom's main street bakery, get the cookie sandwich, and ask for it with warm, freshly baked chocolate chip cookies. it's HUGE and DELICIOUS. mmmmmm.
We went last year and I found that I was able to remain on a somewhat reasonable healthy track.

If I was confronted with just burgers and such I asked for just the patty and a salad (pretty easy to find in the MK) and Epcot is wonderful for food variations.

We even went to France (in Epcot) and were able to get some wonderful fresh fruit, steamed veggies and chicken breast.

Try and do your research so that you are prepared to find something healthy at the park in which you are visiting.  If not, you can always bring some healthy snacks too.
Just don't eat everything on your plate.  Dont scarf it down.  Plan it all out down to the last detail.  Drink lots of water. You walk a ton.

The disneyboards as mentioned earlier is a great info site.  I went to Disney World almost year and half ago for me it was a wake up call when I got the pictures back and saw just how big I had gotten over the years.  I am down 28 pounds since Disney and that trip forever changed me.  It is my before picture. It is on my fridge and I swore I wouln't look like that again. :)  Good luck have fun and dont worry so much.
I remember hearing that the average Disney World visitor walks something like 10-13 miles a day. Not sure if that's true for everyone, but as long as you make reasonably decent food choices, it should go a long way to making it possible for you to maintain--if not lose--your weight.
We walked about 8 miles per day, some of which was pushing a stroller. I didn't count calories or even make particularly healthy choices much of the time, and gained a total of one pound during the week - which I'm thinking was mostly water, as I lost five pounds the following week.

My advice is don't sweat it. Oh, and to add to an earlier comment, if you're going to eat lunch at The Land in Epcot (or even if you're not), DO NOT miss the Soarin' ride. Remember, the purpose of the trip is to have fun.
I would definitely live it up. I was in Disney this winter, and I lived it up because it's not every day I get to be in Disney. We stayed at the Grand Floridian and they have AMAZING restaurants (albeit expensive ones..) so I'd eat healthy stuff for breakfast (I brought my protein shake powder, golean and almonds), healthy salads for lunch and then splurge at dinner. For New Year's Eve I had a 5 course meal of filet mignon and lobster tail with salad, soup, dessert and champagne....and it was calorie-rich and AMAZING. don't give up the good stuff, just don't overdo it. Also, if you get something and you don't like it, stop eating. It might sound silly, but it will save you calories that you'd eat otherwise. Only eat the stuff that tastes worth it. If you have the ability, go to Wolfgang Puck's in Downtown Disney and either Citricos or Narcoussee's at the Grand Floridian. They're pricey, but oh so worth it!
you walk your ass off so much, it wont kill u to eat healthy even if its not SUPER healthy like ur used to, just "try" to eat healthy but its vaca so if u want a treat DO IT
