If you've lost weight, have you gotten over being cold?

Quote  |  Reply

Hi everyone:

I've lost 21 lbs so far, and with the change in weather I am so COLD!  I know that last year at this time, I was not near so cold, and our weather has been pretty mild so far even.  So I guess it's not having so much insulation?

Anway -- if you've experienced this over time, I'd like to know if my body will get used to this so I don't feel so freezing all the time.

Thanks.

Congratulations on your weight loss, drchap!

Yeah, my office neighbor observed that when I was gaining weight, I was always hot, and when I'm losing weight I'm always cold (I have the thermostat in my office so he's at my mercy).

For some people, who have reduced calories but have not increased exercise, it may be that their metabolism has slowed down and that's the source of the freeze.  Right now I've lost 30 pounds and I'm often cold, even though I'm working out, so I don't know what it's about.  I guess I prefer being chilly over being sweaty.  I can always put on a sweater, but there's only so many clothes I can take off (at work, anyway).  And being closer to thin, I don't mind the bulk of extra clothes!

I don't know if the coldness goes away - the last time I lost a significant amount of weight, I gained it back so fast that I never got a chance to find out if my body would get used to it.  Anyone else?

I thought I was crazy...but since losing 20+ pounds I have been cold all the time. And I like the cold. My wife thought I was nuts at first but I could only attibute it to the weight loss. I'm still cold but OK because I'm thinner!

I have only started to warm up.  My hands were like ice all the time.  After typing on my lap top for a few minutes I would have to sit on them to warm them up.  I used to have to dive under a blanket on the couch just to warm up enough to stop shivering. I never thought I would be warm again.  Now, I actually take off my hoody every once in a while and I am waking up in the middle of the night very warm.

I have been complaining constantly about being COLD since I have been losing weight.  I never considered it being a result of losing weight.  Interesting!

I'm warmer than I was when I last posted on this thread in November (and have lost more weight) but perhaps that's just because it's Spring - I'm still cooler than everyone around me.

I've decided that less insulation (i.e., fat) = cooler temperature.  But will my internal thermostat adjust when I've been in maintenance a while?  Anyone out there have experience with this?

I want to lose about 10 lbs more, but I decided to see if I could maintain for awhile before losing again.  So far I've lost 30 lbs. and I have noticed lately that I am not so very cold as I used to be.  So I think that we do re-adjust.  Either that or I've just gotten used to wearing sweaters ;)

I still am not in shape.  I wonder if I had more muscles if that would keep me warmer?

So far I've maintained for 1.5 months without counting calories every day.  I'm pretty happy about that.  But I still weigh every day, and don't feel strong enough to think I'm "done."

Hooray for warmer temps coming soon.  It will be interesting to see if we don't get as hot as easily!
