What are some yummy healthy snacks?

Quote  |  Reply

Today I had baked tortilla chips with salsa. Yummmmmm

Is that healthy? I heard it's kind of healthy but I'm not sure... This is my list of good healthy snacks.

Chips and salsa, oatmeal, smoothie, cottage cheese, and protein shake...

Anyone have any other ideas?

Well I don't know what you consider yummy but the things I snack on throughout the day are:

cucumber slices dipped in spicy salsa

baby carrots

beef jerky

turkey slices

The salsa is healthy but the chips.. not so much!

Some Healthy Snacks I love:

- Bell Peppers

- Cabbage & Tapenade

- Cherry Tomatoes

- Nori Sheets & Yam Noodles

- Tomato Paste

- Spaghetti Squash

- Kelp Noodles & Konbu Noodles (VERY LOW CALORIE sea vegetables)

- Canned Green Beans

- Hard Boiled Egg

- Canned Pumpkin

Mmmm wasabi peas!  They are awesome (if you like spicey).  I throw them into my salad sometimes too.  I've even thrown them into things like chili for an extra kick.

Wasabi is like japanese horseradish used with sushi and other dishes.  Here's more info.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wasabi_peas  You can buy the peas in the grocery store and they are pretty low in calorie content and are a great snack with a kick.

Oh yeah those things! I've tried those once and kind of liked them. I mean, I'll eat like 15 of them then my mouth feels really hot. lol

I don't think the chips are that unhealthy. They are baked and only have i think like 100 mg of salt per serving and some nutrients... Maybe I could eat the salsa by itself? lol what are some other things to have with salsa because I LOVE salsa.

They are definitely a healthy choice - you can get the whole wheat ones and even get low sodium ones if sodium is a concern.  The ones I get let you have 26 chips as a serving size which I actually find very filling and with a little bit of chicken, chopped up onion or other veg, and salsa makes a meal in itself.  The salsa is good for you and again if sodium is a concern, black bean and corn salsa is a lower choice or even make your own.  My kids even mix the salsa with low/no fat sour cream to make their own dip.

Other snacks that I enjoy - plain almonds, popcorn, pita and hummus (actually any veggie and hummus as a dip), natural peanut butter on pita or even spread on sliced apple, in summer frozen grapes are good.

Hey, thanks for all the great snacks. Is popcorn cooked in canola oil still good for you? I heard airpopped is the best but I don't have an air popper...

26 CHIPS! dude that's insane. The ones I have are 14. tell me what brand it is and where I can find it that sounds awesome.

I'm currently addicted to Ryvita crackers.  I'll top them with cream cheese or guacamole or just avocado slices (or avocado+tomato or avocado+garlic powder).

For sweet snacks, I love to top fruit with plain yogurt and a tablespoon of low-sugar/high-fruit jam.  My favourite combos are pineapple (maybe add some kiwi too) with apricot jam or peaches with raspberry jam.

I have always been addicted to tomatoes and will just eat them like a piece of fruit.  Yummy!  You have to get the good ones, though.  If they're not vine ripened, they won't be nearly as nice.

Other veggies I'll snack on alone, or dip in hummus.  I particularly like cucumber and/or carrots with the hummus.

For evening snacks, I'll often have a serving of whole grain cereal.  My favourite is Alpen.

A glass of milk is often a good snack too.  It's the only drink that really fills me up as if it's food.

And homemade muffins are yummy and can be made quite healthy.

Tostitos Rounds - Low Sodium.  I'm in Canada and have found them in all the grocery stores here.  As for the popcorn - the oil popped isn't the greatest.  I have popped corn with olive oil - it adds a bit of a different flavour and is lower in calories.  I found the Smart Pop 100 calorie packs are good.

Thanks again for the wonderful snack ideas!

And I have the baked tostitos scoops... Is that what your talking about? I've never heard of rounds.. and for the popcorn, smart pop is the brand name right? Do you think you could find it at wal-mart or target... In my area they are upgrading our wal-mart to a SUPER wal-mart. we also have a sams club, super target, and sears grand... It's insane.

Oh yeah... and Six Flags...lol

Mmmm, I love those too! I have mine with natural peanut butter.

carrots and salsa are good :]

carrots and salsa? really? I might just try that because I love salsa and carrots are low calorie and vitamin A so, sounds good...But does it taste good?lol

I love salsa too and will some times snack on it along with some raw veggies.

Call me wiered but I love it on my egg beater eggs with more veggies. i have even put in on my salad before.

I absolutely love Trader Joe's snacks.. they have pre-popped popcorn that is really delicious and 2.5 cups of it is only like 100 calories!  And they have little cheeto type things and they're BETTER than cheetos, and they're only 100 calories for 36 pieces.  Very, very good.  And they have popcorn seasonings at the store now, they're only 5 calories per teaspoon or something like that and they add a LOT of flavor to popcorn!
