I eat all the time! I eat small amounts through out the day , though. I have some friends that don't eat all day and then binge when they are by themselves. It's sad and very unhealthy. Don't feel guilty about it! You are normal and what they are doing is not. Don't let their bad habits influence you. Rather, try to let your healthy eating influence them!
Haha I think I totally understand what you mean. My friends who are at completely healthy weights eat so little! My one friend never finishes anything, and sometimes she seems to go so long without food. Most people I know don't even eat breakfast, and some not even snacks. It shocks me!
Even when I was not needing to gain, I could never eat so little. :X Oh well, no need adapt myself to their eating habits. :]
Hun don't feel guilty!!! You are totally normal for wanting to feed yourself. Plus you NEED at least 2500 cals a day to gain weight. If it's only coming to 900 then I suggest adding more to breakfast. For example, I often have porridge but make it with milk, and loads of add-ins to up the cals and then a glass of OJ too. There's about 700 cals out of the way already!
I'm sure your friends really do eat far more than they let on. For example, one of my mates was saying the other day that she hadn't had a meal all day when she'd been munching on random chocolates, packets of crisps and drinking cola all morning - sooo annoying!
And just steamed broccolli - well if that's true it's the weirdest thing I've ever heard haha
my friends are the exact same way. But the reason you are always hungry is because you are refeeding and you body now wants sooo much food to make up for the lack of it in the past. Most likely your friends dont always eat "just steamed brocolli" You shouldnt let how your friends eat effect what and how you eat. Pshhh if they dont wanna enjoy themselves and have delicious foods then you can sit there and have your yummy food and be happy while their tummies growl...oh yes the should be jealous!! lol anyways this really isnt a healthy diet for them so you shouldnt really want to be like them because well they are probably extremely unhealthy!!
please do try and get your calories higher!! food is good for you and it tastes so yummy!!! you will feel soooo much better when you start eating more and getting comfortable with food again. Start adding little things where you wont notice them being there but you will get so many calories out of them...like butter things, put dressings on things, add nuts to stuff..etc.
I am at a healthy weight for my body, yet I need breakfast and lunch to concentrate and I just can’t fathom not eating breakfast and not eating for most of the day and being able to get work done. I don’t know how people do it?!
Part of the reason why we feel like we eat so much more then other people is because we think about food WAY more due to the fact we have/have had eating disorders OR had to gain weight ( without having had an eating disorder)
Basically, because we have had to THINK about food more then normal people, we value it and are more conscious of the fact we need it then other people.
We are much more aware of the difference it makes when we eat regularly, we KNOW that we won’t get as much out of life and be able to concentrate our best if we forget to eat all day.
Oh, and most people eat less then us and stay heavier because they metabolisms are not very efficient since a lot of people don’t eat enough, and/or often enough so their bodies are better at holding on to those calories.
Our bodies know that a meal is never far away, so even when you are at your goal weight, you will be able to eat more then your friends because your metabolism will be more efficient due to not having to slow down to conserve a low calorie intake
oh my gosh...so i was just talking about this with one of my girlfriends today. so, i had just eaten a huge piece of lasagna and a huge salad with some goldfish for lunch. my friend hadn't eaten and had no food so we went to taco bell..she orders one burrito and a regular pepsi. she eats it and then we shared an ice cream...probably about 3/4 cup each. after 2 hours had passed she was talking about how stuffed she was and i was thinking about food. once we got home i ate 2 bowls of oatmeal, an applesauce, and some cottage cheese, then i had a fiber one bar and a bagel...this was before dinner. then i still had dinner. but she said she was STUFFED and i couldnt understand it. she is so tiny and thin too but she eats garbage but just not a lot of it...so confusing. she makes me feel abnormal. :(
Yahhhhh- i definatly feel ya!
My friends and family- it seems like- never eat! My mom skips breakfast, many times lunch and then has a huge dinner and M&Ms for dessert. I can't go 2 hrs w/o food!
My dad "forgets" to eat until 6 o'clock at night.
My brother keeps a box of cereal in his room that he eats if he gets hungry, wich is rarely, but he never will have a meal!
My friends all skip lunch, I'm the only one at our table eating lunch- and NO ONE ever has snacks! I feel like such a goon with a clif bar in chem and my friends are like "you just ate- you're hungry again!?"
Its so frustrating!
I'm glad I'm not the only one! I think people just have different needs, and I think we should all just eat what we want because if we're hungry, then we're hungry!
Omg i feel the same way!!! It's so hard to see people at perfectly healthy weights who eat so little and it makes it so much harder for me to eat around them. I feel like i dont need that many calories then if they maintain on so low. But i know that is not true! My one friend never eats breakfast or lunch, and all she eats is a snack when she gets home and then dinner. None of my friends eat breakfast or lunch so i feel so weird being the only one eating at our lunch table. We all went on a trip to DC, and i counted up calories they eat and most only eat 800-1300 a day which is not enough for a growing teenager! I try not to worry about it but it triggers me so much. I just have to say to myself they are different than you, think about yourself, they probably balance it out and eat more on other days, dont worry about it. But yes, its very frustrating.
It really frustrates me as well to see how little some people around me can manage on.
Like I watch what my sister eats during the day and it really isnt much, she just ends up snacking on biscuits and chocolate. I am on the other eat loads and so often compared to others. She doesnt bother with breakfast either. I couldnt go without eating breakfast, even after I eat mine Im still quite peckish at times.
I definately understand how you feel it can be very frustrating and triggering at times.
coming from an eating-disordered family has made me tend to migrate toward what i refer to as "real" people...people who are down-to-earth, people who aren't afraid to be themselves, people who respect their own needs instead of denying them all the time. it's way more attractive.
surround yourself by people who can set a healthy example, those who aren't going to dabble in some steamed broccoli and then go home and binge on pop-tarts. it's way triggering for me when i start to compare myself to people who don't provide me with a healthy mirror.
every body is a machine and works a bit differently. various factors play into how many calories a body needs. someone who's been starved is going to have different nutritional needs than someone who has never lived in such a state. it may create a ton of anxiety, but i will be thrilled if my metabolism comes back and i can eat more than a plate of vegetables for dinner without gaining weight. i'm tired of being so boring and predictable. i'd rather be a well-oiled machine. <3
You should be proud, you have a great attitude despite your family!
And don’t worry, metabolisms can bounce back! Since my eating disorders, I now eat VERY well, and my metabolism works fine now and I can eat plenty to maintain my healthy weight!
I went from only vegetables for dinner, to now having to eat 4 - 5 decent sized meals a day!
Some people do try to not eat and then binge, but other people just don’t care; they don’t think about food. Ever. So they just forget to eat enough, because they just don’t consider that food can improve their academic results and make them perform better all around.
I think on this website, we are all much more aware of the effect food can have on the body; we KNOW that eating enough regular healthy meals will enable us to concentrate at our studies better and do better in all aspects of life we know how important adequate food is, because a lot of us know what it feels like to NOT eat properly, so we REALLY notice how different it feels once we start to eat enough.
Is my sodium intake too low?
You have nothing to worry about because sodium deficiency is extremely rare. In fact, there is not even an recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA... Read more
