Zero Calorie Chocolate Dip!!
Got your attention didn't I?!
I was grocery shopping and came across this product. I don't normally buy/eat products containing sucralose/Splenda but I thought I'd "take one for the team" and give it a go.
It's made by Walden Farms, the label advertises fat free/sugar free/calorie free/cholesterol free/carb free/gluten free. Ingredients listed (in order) filtered water, defatted cocoa powder, natural vanilla flavour, artificial flavours, cellulose gum, lactic acid, sucralose(0.003 mg/30g) food colour, salt, xanthan gum, and potassium sorbate (to preserve freshness).
Disclaimer: I know this is not a healthy food item, however for people who need to lose and need to seriously curb certain food habits, it might be helpful.
Taste test: out of the jar, ick! Then I mixed one tbsp dip with 1/4 cup of fat free plain yogurt and used it a dip for fruit. It wasn't bad, kind of like sugar free chocolate pudding and the yogurt helps cut the aftertaste. I bet if you mixed it with peanut butter it would taste like Nutella with less calories.
Like I said, I know it's not the healthiest choice, I'm just putting it out there for any who would like the information.
They also have other flavours and products. The chocolate dip I bought is a little pricey at $4.99 for 340 g.
I don't know if posting the link to their website is ok, so let me know if you want it.
I have tried the a lot of Walden Farm products. All I use now is their salad dressings and sometimes their blue berry pancake syrup. I have tried their BBQ sauce, caramel dip, chocolate dip and they taste kinda crappy..too much like splenda. blahh I wouldnt waste money on them.
yeah, like I said "out of the jar, ick". But....when I mixed the chocolate with yogurt it was ok. And I typically HATE the taste of splenda. Not everyone is the same.
There are some folks who use splenda enough that they've acquired a taste for it, in which case, this might be something for them to try.
yeah thats true. I do love splenda, but for some reason tasting it in my BBQ sauce was kinda weird haha
I've been TRYING to track down Walden Farms products for such a looong time now! I can't find any in the stores near me (I live in southern cali).
And they are way too expensive to have shipped from the internet. :(
It's a shame because I'm pretty sure I could get some use out of the pancake syrup and the ranch or honey dijon dressing.
Anyone know of a store in SoCal that carries them?
the pancake syrups are pretty decent . The honey dijon dressing is really good, i havent tried the ranch, but ive tried the blue cheese and it was nasty.
I've been getting them at my local health food store, but i know foodtown by me has them and so does wegmans, the salad dressings are the easiest to find
I've checked the local health stores, and the trader joe's and all of the supermarkets.
Are they in the salad dressing aisle? Or are they in a special diet section? There are so many salad dressings (almost 2 whole aisles in my Albertsons) maybe I'm just over-looking them every time?
Did you try the store locator on their website? It didn't work for me but maybe because I'm in Canada and we have weird postal (zip)codes.
Yeah, and nothing within about 70 miles from the area where I live. Ohhhh well.....
hey yummy_kitty, i dont know exactly where in so cal you live,i'm in riverside and i found some of the walden farm products at a food4less believe it or not.Theyre with the health and diet foods, its a very small section, i know they have the ranch and some other dressings and the chocolate dip and syrup. Even the food4less by my boyfriends house in L.A has them, might wanna try that.
Yummy kitty, I live in San Diego and they carry Walden Farms products at Albertson's down here.
Ok I've never tried this product but if folks are spending this kind of money on syrup, I may suggest just sugar free syrup. It's 35 calories per 1/4 cup and I think it tastes like regular syrup.
One should not be able to use the words "zero calorie" to describe anything chocolate. (Yeah, I'm kind of a chocolate snob....)
Eh - but if it works for people to control cravings, and you can figure out a way to make it edible - go with what you like.
Thanks guys! LA and San Diego are a bit far (I'm in Orange). But I haven't considered trying Food4Less, so I'll take a look!
I would suggest this.
Whip some light cream cheese together with some cocoa powder and a bit of agave nectar or splenda.
Makes a wonderful light dip for fruit.
I have also tried the choclate dip. Here's what I did. I have a mini muffin pan. Sprayed with fat free pam, then sliced bananas, put a slice in each muffin tin then put a dab of choclate on top. Then I froze the whole think. It tasted like frozen choclate bananas. I thought it was really good!
You could also try Fresh & Easy. There are a lot of new stores opening.
