meat, fish, and eggs.  pretty much everything else has carbs in it, unless you buy that stuff that's specially made to have lower carbs.

So more or less if I wanted to attempt to do a Zero-Low Carb diet for 4-6weeks, I would basically be eating alot of meat, and limiting my vegatables or fruits.

And no junk or artificial stuff besides protein powders

Just a suggestion because I have done the zero/low carb thing before (not for weight loss but for digestive reasons).  It is very hard to eat no carb healthily.  You will probably end up loading up on animal fat due to the high intake of meat and eggs and in my experience it takes a lot of these to fill you up.  I'm not sure your motivation for the no carb route, but I suggest including lots of vegetables despite their carb content.  Without trying to lose weight I accidentally dropped almost 10 pounds by eating strictly meat and vegetables (I am a 5'8" female, started out around 140lbs and ended around 130).  I tried to avoid higher carb veggies (I ate lots of peppers and onions, not a lot of corn), but in general ate by what is known as the cave man diet or something like that.  I ate nuts, I ate meat, and I ate lots of veggies.  I really don't know any reason for restricting vegetables in your diet.  They have low calorie density, are generally low in glycemic load due to their fiber content, and have vitamins and minerals.  Plus eating a bunch of veggies along with my steak made me feel more satisfied.  Fiber is goooooood.

Just my two cents.

I agree with kayola.
Even the Atkins diet is NOT a NO CARB diet, you do need carbs and for example Atkins lets you eat at least 3 cups of veggies each day from the beginning and after the first 2 weeks you start adding even more veggies.
I recommend you make sure you eat low carb in a healthy way, else it will do you way more harm than good and I can not think that that is what you are going for.
If you need help on eating low carb, if you choose to take that route, I suggest to go to this here forum, there is a lot of information to be found there on the topic of eating low carb and there are, as are here on low calorie, a lot of knowledgeable people to be found that are willing to help you find your way.

[edit cause I thought of something] on the mentioned website they have stickies with lists of low carb food and such.

Thirding what everyone else said.  Please don't do a zero- carb diet.. your brain needs carbs to live! don't starve it!  Count your calories, eat enough sugar to make your brain happy, and do reduced carbs if you really need to, but don't eat unhealthy : )

Having no carbs will certainly not kill you. You will die without fats or proteins, but not if you cut out carbs.

However, you do need carbs to maintain prolonged organ health. No-carb is not an optimally healthy and generally not a necessary option. Even people who do ketosis generally have a weekly re-feed day or two with carbs.

Even if you just go up to about 100g of carbs per day, that should be sufficient to keep you healthy, and will certainly not heavily interfere with weight loss.

As for foods, a lot of vegetables are fairly low carb. True, ratio wise they may be high carb, but because of all the volume they pack into so few calories, they end up being low carb. Aside from that, there's basically just fats and meats. Not any amazingly tasty low-carb diet prospects I'm afraid, but nobody's doing it for taste in the first place.

Wow, thats a lot of good info guys thanks. I really don't think it would be possible to go on a zero carb diet, just due to the kinds of foods i choose to eat.

I'm a coffee guy and just recently discovered how carb loaded my morning coffee is. BAD but SOOO good.

I burn off a lot of my carbs  and caloires in my training. I train Mixed Martial Arts for 2-3hrs a day after work, so i'm active, but I know its my excess of carbs that are keeping the extra 10-20lbs on.

Im 6' 3' at 220 and in good shape, but not defined as i would like to be.

I assume everyone has their own opinion one things like brown rice, and breads. I can't believe how many carbs these things have. I agree you need carbs for proper health, to a point, but damn. Tongue out

JohnnyD - If you want to get more cut, count your calories more than count your carbs.  With the amount of training you do, you will burn off any carbs you eat if you keep your calorie count under your burn amount.  It will help to try to eat lower glycemic index (GI) carbs like whole grains, brown rice, etc., and get rid of the sugar and any cream in your coffee or other highly processed carb sources (white bread, twinkies, etc.).

Maybe aim for about 25-30% protein, 25-30% fat, and the remainder "healthy" carbs.  This will do a lot more for you long term than trying to go low or no carb.  The main thing is to lose the body fat by eating fewer calories than you burn.

If you still want to do that low carb thing just try to get a lot of good carbs (fiber) that will keep you full, and don't do it for to long. you need a balanced diet when you you do a lot of sports.

Just my 2 cents Laughing

Interesting replies. What about complex carbs? Breads, pastas, rice, potatoes... I don't eat these on a regular basis. And that has lowered my tryglicerids waaay down. I still eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, so... Do any of you know if that is going to take a toll on my overall health? Other than that, I am healthy as can be and I rarely get sick and if I do, it's only minor like a head cold.
