Zig zag diet

Quote  |  Reply

Hey guys

I started the zig zag diet just a week ago (you know, the diet where you eat normally for a couple of days a week, and then restrict calories on the other days). I haven't noticed any loss...maybe there has even been a slight gain, and I was wondering how long it takes to see results on this diet, and if anyone has had any experience? Thanks

fish,

I have personally done zig-zagging and as a general rule (for me) I noticed an immediate change that next week following however, let me say I only did zig-zagging when I hit plateaus where I wasnt losing any weight...in fact I exercised more and didnt lose anything...thats when I tried zig-zagging.  It definitely worked for me...I recommend it to folks who are stalled in their weight loss.

I started zig-zagging roughly 2-3 months ago (after about 3-4 months of 1500/day).  I honestly don't remember when I noticed a change but I believe I continued to lose 1-2 pounds per week.  If I were you, I'd give it a month (at the very least two weeks).  Try not to let that one pound gain get to you too much - your body is probably just adjusting to the change.

it'll work!  :D  just hang in there...

eat less, eat better, AND exercise!

Took a couple weeks for me to see a difference but I too only started this after hitting a plateau.

I've done it on plateaus.  Don't just go down in calories.  Part of the zig zag is to go up in calories for 1 - 3 days above your normal caloric intake.  It makes your body think that you are giving it more, thus turning up the metabolism, then you take it back down on the next part of the zig zag.

If you just eat your normal calories, then go down and you are at a plateau, your body will slow down even more as it thinks that you are starving it. If you give it more calories (good calories), then bring yourself back down to normal, then you should see a movement again in your weight.

Can anyone recommend a plan or equation for a zig-zag diet?

I will occasionally (unintentionally) zig-zag, and have seen results, but I feel it would be more effective if I planed it out :)

Thanks  for the links, even if they weren't technically for me. Tongue out

Here is a brief explanation of zig-zagging...not so much a plan...

zig-zagging is alternating your calorie intake over a 3 day span then start the process over heres an example...if your daily calorie intake should be 2000 (to loose 1 lb a week) then do this

day 1, 1900 calories

day 2, 2000 calories

day 3, 2100 calories

the overall 2000 calories is still maintained yet your body believes hey I am ok...do this over and over till you break the cycle....

here is a link that discusses the process...I personally have tried it when I wanted to cut the plateau...it does work.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I thought it would be more extreme than that - it is really only a 100-200 caloric difference per day.  I will try it out.
