Zig Zag Diet

Quote  |  Reply

I read in another thread that someone was doing a zig zag diet (I don't remember who, now). Do these work? And how do you go about following one?

I am trying one myself at the moment, but it's too early to see significant results as of yet. I have heard that they work though.

The point is eating, for example, 1200 calories one day, then 1400, 1600, 1800 then the cycle repeats. Apparently it keeps your metabolism guessing.

I didn't read this whole article, but it seems to explain things well, so it might help. http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m1608/i s_3_18/ai_83343022

I've been doing this for a few months now and like it very much.  The only thing I will add to strangeasangels post, is that you want to stagger your intake.  So, for example, on Monday you'd eat 1200 calories, then on Tuesday you'd have 1600 calories, Wednesday you'd have 1400, etc.  You don't want to go up by 200 each day because it won't give your body as good of a 'shock'.

im currently doing it, and ive mentioned it a few times on a few posts.

i had a very bad two weeks and i completely abandonned the zig zag, but i just started over again on sunday. therefore, i cant say i've had any real results just yet

for my zig zag i have three "medium days", two "low day" and two "high days"

so my week is like this:

sunday - 1700 cal

monday-2000 cal

tuesday - 1350 cal

wednesday - 1700

thursday - 2100

friday - 1350

saturday- 1700

and i repeat the cycle every week

Just a question for people zig-zagging their calories:

Do you exercise more on the days you eat higher calories? If not, do you still manage to lose a pound or so everyweek despite not having a steady deficit? What's your average deficit?

I'm thinking about trying it myself, but I'm worried that the higher days would hinder my progress by not giving me a normal 500 calorie deficit. D:

Also, to the OP: This site has a nifty calculator that'll zig zag the calories for you. :3
