Zip Lock Omlete

Quote  |  Reply
I got this from my mom in an email.  I have not tried it but I am sure it would work with egg subsitute and/or egg whites. I am curious how these turn out.  Let me know if you try it.

ZIPLOC OMELETS

This works great!  Good when you're alone or when all your family is together.  Best feature is that no one has to wait for their special omelet !!!  Have guests write their name on a quart-size Ziplocfreezer bag with permanent marker.

- Crack 2 eggs (large or extra-large) into the quart size Ziploc bag (not more than 2 ) shake to combine them.

-Put out a variety of ingredients such as: cheeses, ham, onion, green pepper, tomato, hash browns, salsa, etc.

-Each guest adds prepared ingredients of choice to their bag and shake.

-Make sure to get the air out of the bag and zip it up.

- Place the bags into rolling, boiling water for exactly 13 minutes. You can usually cook 6-8 omelets in a large pot. For more, make another pot of boiling water.

-Open the bags and the omelet will roll out easily. Be prepared for everyone to be amazed.

it works - i'm always scared the baggies will melt but they never have so far :)  I haven't tried it with egg substitute, but the egg whites work just fine.

my only quibble is that it makes SCRAMBLED EGGS not an omelette, an omelette has to be a FILLED POCKET OF EGG. mmn. me loves me egg.
yeah I thought that same thing.  so do you think that you can do something like this in the microwave.  Like where you put everything in the bag and then just stick the bag in the microwave but don't use the water?  And maybe microwave it for about 1 minute.
Wow, it doesn't even look like I could screw that up.

I might have to try it.
Yeah. Me too *bookmarks for later*
I'm gonna try the microwave.  I've done scrambled eggs in there for years (well, when I was kid) and they worked great.  I'm sure if you put it in the bag and just test it out that it would work fine and make it more omelettey.  gonna take some trial and error though!

Mmmm...no pans to clean.
