Does anyone follow this diet? I tend to have a hard time keeping down my carbs and figured i would give this a try. I only have about 10 pounds to lose.
I tried it. It is healthy and has good principles but it is hard and tedious to follow. I couldn't stick with it. I didn't have the time. So even though I lost I gained it back. The South Beach Diet is great. I wouldn't do the first phase but start at the second phase. It is a good way to learn healthy eating habits. You have to find something you can stick with as a lifestyle change.
I use the basic principles to help judge portion size and attempt to keep the protein - carb balance that helps with blood sugar:
protein the size and thickness of your palm (this doesn't work for something like peanut butter obviously :) !
carbs - if low glycemic value then 2 fists size, if high 1 fist
I don't "worry" about fat - I probably get a bit much as my protein is typically meat or cheese - some fish and I eat red meat, plus I use olive oil as well as butter.
If a snack, I halve or quarter sizes but keep same preportion of protein-carb.
I think the portion guidelines are sensible and I seem to do best watching portion size and glycemic load.
this diet is not as hard to follow as most diets. Its really sensible with the carbs, proteins and fat percentages, so its a perfect diet to turn into a lifestyle change.
40%, 30%, 30%
good carbs being fruits and veggies (natural foods) and "bad" carbs being grains, pasta and bread...these should be kept in moderation, not eliminated, best to be thought as condiments.
I plan on sort of mixing the zone diet with a a low GI diet (meaning natural foods being my first choice) both diets are easy to follow and they dont restrict too much.
but I plan on doing this for life....the zone diet is easier than a low GI diet in my opinion...Ive given up my addiction to carbs slowly but surely, so you should stry it if you can keep up with it in the long run. if its too hard to keep, try just going for a normal diet of whole grains, unprocessed foods, etc etc... you know :)
good luck
I have 40/30/30 every day but I do not have “ zone” meals because I do not combine carbohydrates and protein
I do have 100 gram portions of protein though like it suggests
This “ diet” is sustainable, I feel like I eat PLENTLY of carbohydrates at 40%
I think it is a good guideline to start from, but each individual will need to alter it to suit what is best for THEIR body , which they can only learn through trying things out and seeing how they respond!
I highly recommend the zone %’s of 40/30/30, regardless of weather you follow the “ diet” menu guidelines or not!
Will I lose weight if I eat the same food over and over?
You can lose weight despite eating the same food day-after-day as long as you eat fewer calories than you burn. In fact, eating the... Read more
