Zumba!

I am 54. I love, love, love zumba! I used a monitor yesterday during the hour class and my heart rate was in the 120's and 130's for most of the class.  The total calories burned on the monitor was 540.  It is so hard for me to keep my heart rate up with walking/jogging, but zumba makes it fun.

Alot depends on the teacher.  Find a teacher who breaks down the steps for you before each dance, if possible.  My favorite teacher is in her 30's and teaches the steps.  Some of the younger instructors  in their 20's have tended not to do that, but now that i have been doing it for a few months, i am able to follow them just fine.

As i told a friend, i don't love zumba because i am great at it, i just love it!

Try it if you like to sweat while you are having fun.

I am curious to know - what does your heartrate get up to while jogging?  I can't get mine up very high by walking, but if I could run, I'm sure I could get it high enough.  Trouble is, my knees won't allow running.   Spin class gets mine very high, and a big resistance number or going fast on the elliptical works too.

Zumba sounds really fun!  I know I'd love it but I live out in the sticks.

Hi Moonduster.  My heartrate can get up to 150's jogging, but it makes me uncomfortable.

There are some zumba DVD's you can try--they are okay, but not as much fun as class.

Good luck,b

I am 50 and did Zumba at my work.  It was great. Unfortunately, they closed our gym.  I now belong to Fitness anytime but it just has the equipment.  I am going to change gyms in Feb when my contract runs out.  I would really perfer to run.  I was a run/walker for 20 yrs then an accident caused me to not be able to do anything.  But now I am gradually getting back into it.  I did love zumba though.

I am 54 and I love Zuumba!!! I have done a lot of different exercises over the years including step, pilates, dancin with Richard Simmons, hip hop abs, yoga booty ballet, boot camp; yes, I have all the videos to prove it, but I have found a home with Zuumba. I haven't bought the videos yet, because I need the drive that the class provides. Our teacher mixes hip hop and belly dancing into the routines.  Dr.Zuumba for anyone in Cleveland, OH looking for a class.

I am recovering from Colon Cancer and overeating.  I have gained about 50 pounds since getting married five years ago.  This time I am going slow but steady.

Zuumba is definitely in the High Aerobic category.

Good luck with your recovery!!

Oh I LOVE Zumba!!  It is so much fun.  I go to a gym that has fabulous instructors.  One gal that teaches the Zumba class is so funny and makes comments about some of the Latin pop songs, like.."you don't want to know what he just said, it's nasty!" She has the whole class cracking up.

I couldn't wiggle my hips from side to side because of tight muscles. Now I can shake it like everyone else! lol
