Zumba! Most fun I ever had exercising!
I'd heard about Zumba and had always wanted to try it and last night i finally did! It was 55 minutes of the most intense and fun workout I've ever done! I sweat buckets! For those who are not familiar with it, Zumba is a mixture of Latin and other similar dances combined with an aerobic workout and it's set to high energy Latin, Salsa, Reggie... music. You don't have to know how to dance to do it- trust me! The instructor made it fairly easy to pick up the steps, but even when I wasn't getting the steps just right, I was still moving and burning calories! They say if you really get into it you can possibly burn up to 1000 calories during a 55 minute workout! I would believe it! I am definitely going to do this again!
You know I can not seem to get myself motivated to exercise and follow this diet. how do you do it? I always forget to log my food. I have a bad leg so I am limited on what I can do, I generally like to go on walks. I think its this awful heat keeping me from going out and exercising. i have an exercise bike in my living room collecting dust. I just need something fun to do that is also exercise. I thought about going to arboretums and zoos to walk to try to make things fun
I googled Zumba and there are actually a lot of places around the Kansas City area that offer it- a lot of the YMCA's and some dance studios, but I'm taking my class at the Sylvester Powell Jr. community center over on 62nd and Martway in Mission, KS. It's offered on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:00 to 6:55.
kclady36- Don't get down on yourself. It's not easy! A year ago if someone had told me i'd be enjoying exercise and looking for new ways to exercise I would have told them they were nuts!! But once I started going to Curves and before I had even lost any weight, I started feeling soo much better!! I used to get so out of breath all the time and my legs aches constantly! Now I can go up and down stairs and not get winded and my legs don't hurt anymore- that right there was motivation enough to keep me going. You just have to get in the habit of doing it. I find if I pay for something- like Curves or taking the Zumba class, i tend to stick with it because I feel guilty if i pay the money and then don't do it. For the first time since i began Curves back in February, I actually missed a day this past week- normally I would've felt really guilty but I had my niece's wedding to go to and i did so much dancing at her wedding that I figured I got a pretty good work-out in!! I have had some set-backs from time to time - especially this month around the 4th of July and also my niece's wedding where i chowed on all the good food at the reception, but I don't beat myself up about it and I tell myself I'll get back on track the next day. I figure it may take me a bit longer to lose all the weight but it took me a long time to put it on and it isn't going to come off in a day. Do you like to swim? would that be something you could do with your leg? Just a suggestion. i recently did something to my arm while lifting weights at Curves, but now I'm just doing the leg weights while my arm rests and heals. Good luck to you!
